General information

Kyrgyzstan possesses vast mineral resources: over 2,000 explored deposits including gold, antimony, mercury, tin, tungsten, rare earth elements, coal and non-metallic materials. The mining industry accounts for approximately 10% of the country's GDP.

The country ranks 3rd in the CIS by gold reserves. The largest deposit — Kumtor — is one of the world's top 10 gold mines. Beyond gold, there is growing interest in antimony (7% of global reserves), tin and rare earth elements.

The new Law on Subsoil Resources (2012, amended 2023) simplified the licensing process, introduced electronic auctions and enhanced sector transparency.
